These ten mistakes come up repeatedly in EV charging procurement. Avoid them and your first container arrives on schedule, certified, and installable. Make them and you will spend your margin on freight, rework, and certification extensions.

Mistake 1: Buying "UL Certified" Without a File Number

The phrase "UL certified" without a certificate number is marketing, not compliance. UL and ETL certifications are model-specific. When a salesperson says "we are UL certified," ask: what is the file number for this exact model?

Verify it yourself: search the UL Product iQ database or Intertek's directory using the file number. Confirm the certificate holder, the model, and the date. This single check eliminates most counterfeit-compliance suppliers.

Mistake 2: Not Confirming Which Model Your Certificate Covers

A factory can legitimately hold UL certification for one product line while shipping you a different, uncertified model. Before you pay, get a written statement mapping:
