A bad EV charger supplier costs you more than a bad product. It costs you uptime, NEVI compliance, warranty disputes, and months of stalled sites. Yet most buyers evaluate suppliers the way they evaluate spec sheets — by comparing power output and price — and only discover the gaps after the first container arrives.

This checklist is built for buyers who are comparing EV charger manufacturers from overseas: charging network operators, gas station owners, fleet managers, utilities, and EPC contractors. Use it before you send a purchase order, not after.

Point 1: Verify Certification on Your Exact SKU

The single most common mistake in EV charger procurement is accepting "we are UL certified" at face value. UL, ETL, and CE certifications are per-model, not per-company.

What to ask for:

  • The UL file number (e.g., UL-US-2583475-0) or ETL control number for the specific model you are buying
  • Confirmation that the certificate covers your configuration — voltage, connectors, and software version
  • The certificate holder's legal name — does it match the factory you are contracting with?

EV chargers are software products with power electronics attached. The charger management system (CMS) is where you live every day: monitoring, pricing, load management, remote diagnostics.

Questions to ask:

  • Which OCPP version is supported (1.6J is the practical standard; 2.0.1 matters for ISO 15118/Plug & Charge)?
  • Can you bring your own CMS, or are you locked into the factory's platform?
  • Can firmware be updated remotely and in batches?
