UL 2202 Certificate Walkthrough: What Each Field Means

Reading about certificates is one thing; reading an actual certificate is another. This walkthrough takes a real UL certificate — the one for our DC fast charging line — and goes through it line by line, explaining what each field means and why it matters when you are checking whether a certificate covers the equipment you intend to buy. The certificate is public, in the UL Product iQ directory, and downloadable from our site, so you can follow along with the document in front of you.

The Document at a Glance

The UL 2202 certificate for our DC line is a two-page US certificate paired with a two-page Canadian certificate, issued under the same test report. The pair covers the same product family for both markets: UL 2202 for the US side, CSA C22.2 No. 346 for the Canadian side. The key fields are consistent across both, and they are the fields you should look at in any UL certificate you receive.

The Certificate Number Tells You the Market

The certificate number format carries information. A UL-US number is the US listing; a UL-CA number is the Canadian listing. Our DC line carries both, because the same product family was evaluated against UL 2202 for the US and CSA C22.2 No. 346 for Canada. If a supplier shows you a US certificate and claims it covers Canadian sales, check whether a paired UL-CA number exists. The standards are different documents, and the listings are separate.

Issued to: The Entity That Matters

The "Issued to" field names Wenzhou Fengbaoke Electronics Co., Ltd as the certificate holder, with the full factory address in Yongjia County, Wenzhou. This is the legal entity whose factory is under UL's follow-up inspection program. When you are buying through a trading company, a distributor, or a brand that white-labels the hardware, the certificate holder is the entity you should be able to trace back to. The entity on the certificate is the one accountable for continued compliance. Our DC chargers are manufactured by this entity; the certificate is public under this name, and the directory record matches.

The Category Code: FFTG and FFTG7

UL assigns every certified product a category code, and the code tells you what class of product the certification covers. FFTG is the category for Electric Vehicle Charging System Equipment in the US; FFTG7 is the Canadian equivalent. If a certificate's category code does not match the product type you are buying, that is a mismatch worth stopping on. Category codes are also how you navigate the UL Product iQ directory when you do not have the certificate number handy.

Standards and Editions on the Line

The standard line reads "UL 2202, 3rd Ed., Issue Date: 2022-12-15" on the US certificate and "CSA C22.2 No. 346:22, 1st Ed., Issue Date: 2022-12-15" on the Canadian one. Two things to notice. First, the edition is explicit: 3rd Edition of UL 2202, issued 2022-12-15, and the 2022 edition of the CSA standard. Second, the dates line up — note that 2022-12-15 is the publication date of the standard edition, not the certificate's issue date (2025-09-08), and the alignment is what you expect for a single test program covering both markets. When you check any certificate, confirm the edition cited is the current one — a certificate citing a superseded edition does not cover current production under the current requirements.

The Model Scope: Dispenser and Cabinet

The model field is the most important one on the document. The UL certificate covers two models: DC550KSK01, described as the charging dispenser, and DC480TFS01, described as the power cabinet. This matches the split-type architecture of the product line: the cabinet holds the power conversion, the dispenser holds the connector and the cable. Both are on the certificate because both are part of the certified system.

The scope being explicit matters for a practical reason. If you are buying a configuration that is not on the certificate — a different dispenser model, a power cabinet variant — that configuration is not covered by this certification, regardless of how similar it looks. The certificate is the boundary. When a supplier says "the whole line is UL certified," the certificate tells you which models that statement is actually true for.

The Clause That Changes How You Read It

Near the bottom of the first page, the UL certificate carries a paragraph that most readers skip: the certificate of compliance "does not provide authorization to apply the UL Mark." Only the authorization page, which references the Follow-Up Services Procedure, authorizes the mark, and only products bearing the mark are covered under UL's follow-up services.

This is the most useful sentence on the document. It separates two things that buyers often conflate: the product passed testing (what the certificate proves) and the factory is under ongoing surveillance with authorized marks (what the follow-up program provides). When you verify a supplier, the certificate is the starting point, and the directory record showing an active listing with follow-up services is the confirmation that the certification is alive. A certificate alone, especially an old one, does not prove the units being shipped today carry a valid mark.

How to Verify This Certificate Yourself

The certificate points to the directory: UL Product iQ at iq.ulprospector.com. The verification path is short:

1. Open UL Product iQ and search for certificate number UL-US-2583475-0 (or UL-CA-2561033-0 for the Canadian listing); if you do not have the number at hand, search by the holder name, Wenzhou Fengbaoke Electronics.
2. Confirm the record shows the same entity, the same category, and the same covered models.
3. Confirm the record is active, which reflects the follow-up program being in place.

The same method applies to any UL certificate you are handed. If the directory record does not match the paper certificate, trust the directory.
